DIRECTION

The first stage of our Business Transformation Model is where you connect your transformation aims to your business purpose, vision and desired impact. This ensures that your transformation results align with your business ambitions. 

Questions that you might ask yourself here include: 

  • What are our company ambitions? Are these aligned to our business purpose and vision?
  • What are our main concerns and what are the underlying causes of these?
  • What would a successful transformation look like?
  • What is our capability for delivering change?

DIAGNOSTIC

Once you have a sense of your business direction, it’s time to carry out a diagnostic. This is where you take an honest look at your business performance to establish the distance between where you are now and where you want to be. It’s important to go beyond just considering your financial performance here. You should also take a look at how well you are serving your customers and getting value from your people, processes and technology. 

You will probably want to ask yourself:

  • What would great performance look like? And how large is the gap between where we are now and where we would like to be?
  • How good is our relationship with our internal and external customers?
  • How engaged and committed are our people?
  • Do we have efficient processes? Or do we work quite manually, with our senior people regularly pulled into problem solving?
  • Are we getting best use out of our technology?

DESIGN

The Design stage of our Business Transformation Model is where you start to think about the shape and structure of your future business and the business transformation approach that will help you to deliver this. This is where you break down your business ambitions into achievable goals and articulate these in strategies, roadmaps and plans.

At this stage, you will want to think about:

  • What will our target operating model look like? What needs to happen to turn this into reality?
  • Realistically, how much this will cost and how long this will take to deliver?
  • What benefits do we expect to deliver? What will our criteria for success be? And how will we measure these?
  • Who will need to be involved to ensure successful programme delivery? And what support will they need to ensure success?
  • How ready is our business to change? What obstacles will we need to overcome?

DELIVERY

The final stage of our Business Transformation Model is where you ensure successful, responsible delivery of your transformation programme. Doing a good job here will safeguard your return on investment whilst managing the impacts of your change programme well.

Here are some of the questions you will want to consider at this stage:

  • How will we support the programme team to ensure high levels of energy, commitment and performance?
  • What are all of the activities involved and how will these be structured, managed and reported? What will the critical path look like?
  • Who needs to be engaged in the programme, to what extent and how?
  • How will we ensure effective handover and knowledge transfer from the programme to the wider business?
  • How will we manage all of the impacts of our programme successfully?
